The TCED 2026 Retreat Theme

The Theological and Christian Education Department of the Cameroon Baptist Convention held its annual retreat this year at the conference hall of Hope Baptist Church in Ndamukong. The theme of the retreat was “Serving with all Wisdom.” The purpose of the retreat was to realign, reflect, and renew the department’s commitment to serving Christ with all wisdom through the strength He provides. The TCED director, Rev. Dr. Ngalla Godlove, delivered the exhortation on how the retreat’s objectives could be achieved, using Colossians 1:28-29 as a reference.

Jesus, Our Role Model for Retreating

When we retreat, we follow the example set by the Lord Jesus Christ, who took time away from His ministry to commune with God. Luke 5:15-16 tells us that He withdrew to desolate places to pray. It is important to note that Jesus did not retreat because He lacked work. In Luke 5:15-16, His fame was spreading, yet He retreated to pray. He did not retreat because there was no work, but because there was much work ahead and he needed spiritual strength to do it.

The Lord not only modeled the habit of retreating but also encouraged it. He commanded His disciples in Mark 6:31a (see Mark 3:7; Luke 9:10) to retreat and rest. Retreating is a beneficial spiritual exercise. When we keep working without taking time to retreat, we can go off track or become mechanical in our service without realizing it. It is easy to start depending on one’s own strength and intellect to do God’s work when we work continually without resting or taking a retreat to seek God’s face on how to do the work he has given us. Rest enhances our productivity because it is during a retreat that our spiritual senses (tools) are sharpened.

The TCED 2026 Retreat Outcomes

After the TCED retreat, the department’s commitment to making Christ known and worshiped so that it might present every person mature in Christ is stronger. We are especially committed to presenting him clearly to everyone through all our resources. Paul was committed to proclaiming Christ alone, and it is Christ alone that we also want to proclaim. It is in him that all men live and move and have their being so all men must be pointed to him.

The department has resolved to serve every Christian within the Cameroon Baptist Convention and beyond with sound biblical lessons, both in print and audiovisual media. The department aims to see Christ formed in every person, which is why, in the coming months, it will also develop a plan to minister to the clergy as it continues to serve the laity with Christian literature and social media content.
