Content
Respect for authorities is a reflection of our respect for God's sovereignty. He has established governments and leaders to maintain order and justice. As Christians, we are called to honor them as part of honoring God's divine structure. Peter encourages believers in our text to submit to earthly authorities, recognizing that God has appointed them to maintain justice and promote good. Honoring our authorities, whether political leaders or law enforcement, is an act of respect for God's established order. By submitting to authorities, we acknowledge that God is ultimately in control of all aspects of life. Do you honor the authorities in your life? Even when you disagree with them, how can you show respect and honor to them for God's sake?
Reflection
Respect for governing authorities is not a choice. The Bible commands Christians to respect governing authorities. Their respect for these authorities is not only a reflection of their respect and submission to God, but also an act of respect to God, who expects them to respect the governing authorities.
Prayer
Lord, help me to honor and submit to the authorities You have placed over me. Teach me to respect their role in maintaining order, and may my actions reflect my respect for you. Pray for the CBC: Pray for the CBC missionaries working in Ako Field.
