When wronged, our natural reaction is often to seek revenge or justice. However, God calls us to leave vengeance to Him. Instead of retaliating, we are called to respond with kindness and forgiveness, overcoming evil with good. This reveals God's nature and demonstrates His ultimate justice. Paul teaches us that revenge is God’s prerogative, not ours. We are instructed to let God handle the situation, trusting in His perfect justice. Instead of returning evil for evil, we are called to act in love—feeding our enemies, giving them drink, and showing kindness in return for their mistreatment. This act of forgiveness not only reflects God’s character but also brings conviction to the heart of the wrongdoer. Reflect on a time when you were tempted to seek revenge. How did it impact your relationship with God and others? Commit yourself to begin to trust God’s justice instead of taking matters into your own hands.
Reflection
Forgiveness involves surrendering the right to seek revenge and trusting God’s justice.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to trust your perfect justice and to respond with kindness, even to those who have wronged me.
