Forgiveness is central to the Christian faith. Peter’s question about how many times we should forgive reveals a common human tendency to limit forgiveness. Jesus, however, teaches that true forgiveness has no limits. In this passage, Peter tries to put a limit on forgiveness, suggesting seven times. Jesus responds by saying seventy-seven times, emphasizing that forgiveness should be unlimited. This teaches us that forgiveness is not a matter of keeping count but of choosing to forgive as often as necessary. The more we forgive, the more we grow spiritually. Are you struggling to forgive someone who has wronged you repeatedly? Reflect on how God's forgiveness toward you is limitless and how you can mirror that in your relationships. Consider deciding to forgive, regardless of how often you are hurt.
Reflection
Our forgiveness should not have a quota. God did not set a quota on his forgiveness for us. We must be eager to forgive people because of the forgiveness we have received from God through Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Lord, help me to forgive without keeping count. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me—freely, fully, and without limits.
