Zechariah also points out the purpose of the salvation God is bringing to His people through Jesus Christ. God brings salvation to His people for their deliverance (v. 71). The people who were lost, especially in sins that kept them in captivity, will now be saved from their sins because of the coming of Jesus Christ. God has also brought salvation to fulfill His promise (vv. 72–73). He made a promise to David in 2 Samuel 7:16; the coming of Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise. This shows how much God is committed to doing what He has promised to do. God brings salvation to His people so that they might serve Him (vv. 74–75). God’s people must respond to this great salvation brought through Jesus Christ by serving God without fear, in holiness, and in righteousness all the days of their lives. Because of the salvation God brings to His people, believers should serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness all the days of their lives.
Reflection
Zechariah’s words remind us that God’s salvation through Jesus is not only a rescue from the sins that once held us captive, but also the fulfillment of His faithful promises across generations. In Christ, God proves that He does not forget what He has spoken, and He acts with unwavering commitment to redeem His people. This salvation is not merely a gift to be received but a calling to be embraced: we are saved so that we may serve God freely, without fear, walking in holiness and righteousness each day. As we reflect on God’s faithfulness and mercy, we are invited to respond with lives that honor Him, living as people who have truly been delivered.
Prayer
Commit yourself to serve God without fear, in holiness and righteousness, all the days of your life. Pray for the CBC: Pray for the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) and its members. Ask that they keep depending on God as their ultimate source of help in their ministry and service.
