Parents play a vital role in shaping their children's attitudes and behaviors. To teach respect, parents must model respect. This includes showing love, patience, and godliness toward their children and other people. Children learn more with their eyes than they learn with their ears. The wise man in Proverbs 22:6 presents the importance of training children in the way they should go. This means that there is a way children ought to go. Parents ought to know the way they ought to go, and they ought to teach it to their children. They must not assume that their children will find that way on their own. They must not leave the training of their children to their teachers, peers, or pastors. Parents must teach their children the way they want their children to go. How are children supposed to go? How are you intentionally parenting or going to parent your children in the right way?
Reflection
The command to train up children in the way they should go shows us that children will not find the way to go without training. If parents choose not to teach their children the way they want them to go, their children's peers, teachers, and the rest of society will train them in the way they want them to go. Intentional parental teaching in a day and age like ours is spiritual warfare and protection of the child because the devil and the world want to destroy and are actively destroying the lives and souls of children.
Prayer
Father, help me to be intentional about the upbringing of my children. Help me to be a good example to the children in my family, my biological children, and the children in my life.
