The Lord cursed a fig tree because He could not find figs on it when He was hungry (Mk 11:12-14). In the morning, the effect of the curse was visible as the tree withered (vv 20-21). But Jesus used it to teach the lesson of faith to His disciples. He connected the issue of faith to prayers because prayer is the source of power of such faith. He then moved to the concept of forgiveness to say that prayers offered in faith will be answered by the Father if they are done in the spirit of forgiveness. He places faith and the willingness to forgive as the two conditions for effective prayers. Have you ever felt like your prayers are not being answered despite the fact that you pray in faith? It could just need you to forgive someone you are angry with. Let your prayers of faith not be hindered by unforgiveness.
Reflection
Forgiveness releases us to pray with confidence because we know that our prayers will be answered.
Prayer
Pray that God will give you a forgiving Spirit.
