Forgiveness is the foundation of the Christian life. God has forgiven us of all our sins through faith in Jesus Christ and will forgive anyone of all their sins if they believe in Jesus Christ. God’s continued forgiveness towards us is linked to our willingness to forgive others. If we are unwilling to forgive, we block God’s forgiveness in our own lives. This is revealed to us in Matthew 6:14-15, where Jesus connects forgiveness between people with receiving God’s forgiveness. If we hold onto unforgiveness, we are refusing to reflect the forgiveness God has shown us. We are expected to forgive as we have been forgiven. When you forgive others, you open the door for God to forgive you. Remove any bitterness from your heart and extend grace to those who have hurt you.
Reflection
We have been forgiven of all our sins through faith in Jesus Christ. As beneficiaries of this gracious forgiveness, we must be willing and ready to forgive others. To continue receiving God’s forgiveness, we must forgive others.
Prayer
Lord, help me to forgive others just as you have forgiven me. Remove any bitterness from my heart, and help me to extend grace to those who have hurt me. Amen.
