Content
The content of these verses seem to suggest one’s relationship with his/her neighbor not primarily Christians. The teaching on blessing persecutors instead of cursing them goes back to the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 5:44 which were manifested by Christ Himself. In His trials and sufferings to the cross, He only prayed for His persecutors. To bless one’s persecutor begins with praying for yourself and forgiving them, praying for their forgiveness by God, and that they will have a change of heart and be engrafted into the family of faith. Blessing those who persecute you is not just an instruction but a command that demands continues obedience because the persecution will also be a continuous thing. Turn to God for grace to obey this command.
Reflection
Blessing a persecutor is beneficial to you first.
Prayer
Ask God for the ability to bless instead of cursing.
