God’s forgiveness is rooted in His love for us. He forgives us not because we deserve it, but because of His great love and mercy. This passage reminds us that God’s love was demonstrated through the sacrifice of His Son for our sins. John teaches that God’s love is displayed in the sending of His Son to atone for our sins. God did not wait for us to love Him first, but He initiated love by sacrificing His Son. Through Jesus, God offers us forgiveness, not based on our actions but on His love and mercy. How can you extend that love and forgiveness to others? Think about the people in your life who need to experience God’s love and forgiveness through Jesus Christ and share the gospel with them.
