Worship is not limited to gathering on Sunday morning to sing songs and pray with other Christians. The Bible teaches that mutual submission in the Christian community is an act of worship. In Ephesians 5:21, Paul urges believers to submit to each other out of reverence for Christ. The reason you must submit to other Christians, therefore, is not because they deserve it but because Christ deserves your respect and has asked you in his word to respect others. Mutual submission is not about inferiority or superiority. This means Christians should be willing to serve one another without letting social class and status stand in the way. If we are submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ, then Christian mutual submission is an act of worship. How can you practice mutual submission in your relationships today? Reflect on how you can submit to others in humility and love, recognizing their worth and honoring Christ through your actions.
Reflection
The Bible encourages us to submit to one another in love, recognizing that every person is worthy of respect because of our common union in Christ through his blood offered up for us. This mutual submission fosters harmony in Christian relationships. The command to submit to one another here is a call for all Christians to be willing to bend their wills so that they can serve other Christians.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be willing to worship you by submitting to other Christians out of reverence for you. Teach me to honor you by being willing to serve other believers at all times, especially when I do not feel like it.
