Zechariah and Elizabeth
formed an exemplary family not only because they
were righteous before God but also because they
were also serving God faithfully.

In verses 8–10, we heard that Zacheriah was fully involved
in serving as a priest. He was appointed on that faithful
day to go into the temple and burn incense. This was a
practice among them.

They used to choose a priest who
would go into the holy place inside the temple to offer
prayer and burn incense on the temple’s altar. The incense
was symbolic of the people’s prayers and dedication to
God (Exod 30:1–10; Ps 141:2; Rev 5:8). The time for
burning incense coincides with the time set aside for
prayers, so some people gather outside to pray.

God answered the prayers of Elizabeth and Zechariah
while Zechariah was serving the Lord. God always visits
people who are busy doing His work. These days, we have
young people who want God to bless them, but they are
not ready to do anything. We have young girls who want
God to bless them with a God-fearing husband, but they
are not ready to serve God faithfully. Trust God to help you
be a servant.

A Suggestion for Prayer: Plead with God for the grace to
be committed to serving Him faithfully.
