At one point the Gentiles were separated from Christ and were strangers to the covenant promise. “But” our text shows that in Christ, this separation no longer exists. Those separated have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Christ Himself is the joy of their reconciliation because he broke the wall of hostility that existed making them one. Christ’s desire is to create in Him one new man in the place of two and give them peace. This He has done through His reconciling work on the cross and has brought all to God. The church today is too divided with personal denominational and doctrinal differences. One person or denomination feels important than the other. But the challenge is that we reconcile with all and also different denominations in Christ even if we have differences in doctrinal beliefs.
Reflection
Through Christ, all barriers that separate people—whether cultural, personal, or religious—have been broken. What was once a wall of hostility has been replaced with peace and unity because of His sacrifice on the cross. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect this reconciliation in our own lives by letting go of divisions, pride, and conflicts, and by seeking unity even with those whose beliefs or practices differ from ours. True faith shows itself not in insisting on being “right” alone, but in living out Christ’s desire to bring people together as one family under Him.
Prayer
Pray that God will build in us desire for oneness so that we can easily reconciled.
