This passage describes the atmosphere after the birth of Jesus Christ. There is a group of wise men who are responding to the sign of a star. These wise men are Gentiles but the king of the Jews is trouble, frightened and intimidated by this news. Jerusalem is troubled along with their king perhaps for fear of what the king will do because of this news. The birth of Christ creates different kinds of signals in the hearts of the people. It is negatively alarming to the king and positively alarming to the wise men, and means nothing to the chief priests and Scribes. The question is, what kind of signals does it create in your life. It is better you take side than seating on the fence (Rev 3:15-16).
Reflection
The birth of Jesus stirred different reactions in everyone who heard the news—joy and pursuit in the wise men, fear and resistance in King Herod, and indifference in the religious leaders. In the same way, the message of Christ still presses on our hearts today, inviting us to choose how we will respond. Instead of staying neutral or unmoved, we are called to take a clear stand, letting His coming awaken faith, devotion, and a sincere desire to follow Him.
Prayer
Trust God that the message of the kingdom will create a positive tension in you.
