The Church in Ephesus was an example of an enduring church in times of challenges. They maintained their doctrinal purity by resisting false teachers, yet there was something against them. They abandoned the love they had at first. The first love can be seen in two ways, their inner commitment to God like the love of the newly wedded bride to the husband and the love they had for one another. The call is for the church to get back to her first love. First love is an indication that they still love but not to the intensity they did at first. It is possible that we can be carried away by many Christian activities and church programs that our loving devotion to Christ and one another can be lost, but this is a reminder for a turn back.
Reflection
There is a need for repentance.
Prayer
Ask God to help you examine the level of devotion to Him and others so that you can repent where necessary.
