Paul persuaded Philemon with strong emotional words like, “I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart.” The word used for “heart” here actually means intestine; it represents the physical organs of the intestine, which were regarded by the Hebrews as the seat of tender affections. It can also be translated as “inward affection” (Philippians 2:1; Colossians 3:12). Paul would have loved Onesimus to stay and serve him in place of Philemon, but he recognized that Onesimus was Philemon’s property. If Philemon should see that Onesimus ran from him not for the crime He committed but permitted by God for his salvation, then it should be easy for him to forgive Onesimus. As one mediating forgiveness, don’t compel the hurting person to forgive but convince him/her to see reasons to forgive out of free will.
Reflection
Forgiveness should be from a willing heart.
Prayer
Pray that God will help me to be convincing enough. Prayer for the CBC: Ask God to protect and care for all doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel working in our CBC health facilities.
