God’s forgiveness is linked to our identity as His people. God forgives his children. His forgiveness is granted so that His name is honored by his people, and because of it. In our text, God promises forgiveness to His people if they humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways. This forgiveness is tied to God’s covenant with His people, a relationship based on His grace. When we repent, God, in His mercy, restores us to Himself. As God’s people, we bear His name. When you sin, are you mindful of how it affects your relationship with God and His glory? Live in a way that honors your identity. When you sin, turn to God for forgiveness. He has promised to forgive those who turn to him in repentance (1 John 1:9).
Reflection
God forgives because we are His people, called by His name.
Prayer
God, I thank you for calling me your own. Help me to live in a way that honors you, acknowledging that when I seek forgiveness, I represent your name. Lead me to humility and repentance, knowing that you will forgive me. Prayer for the CBC: Pray for the life, ministry, and Family of Rev. Dr. Paul Mokake, Director of Evangelism and Missions.
