When King David wanted to build a house for God he did not go out and use his authority as king to make his people give for the project. He gave his own resources then put his example before his people as what to imitate. The Lord Jesus did the same thing as taught in 1 John 3:16-18. He exemplified giving to those who will follow Him by laying down His life for us. Again, a key characteristic of these exemplary giving was that it was generous and free. Use every giving opportunity as an opportunity to teach the people in your life how to give. This means that the people who look up to you should give to God in the same way you give.
Reflection
A Good Gift is Exemplary.
